FAQ

What is FreeOSEK?

Please see our What is FreeOSEK? page.

Can I use FreeOSEK for commercial purposes?

Yes, you can use FreeOSEK for commercial purposes and distribute your code with a different licensing type other than GPL v3.
FreeOSEK is released as GPL3 with Link Exception, please take a look at our licensing page for more details.

How can I contribute with the project?

You can take part in the project in many forms. Using it is the easiest way. But if you are interested in any task, please do not hesitate in writing to the FreeOSEK team. We are open to new ideas and participants. You can participate porting FreeOSEK to new hardware, writing new modules or reporting bugs (we hope you don't find any). You can also contribute not only with money, but with development boards, debugger or other hardware too.

Why FreeOSEK and not other RTOS?

freeosek depends on your needs. FreeOSEK is a RTOS orientated for real time operation and is a priority based RTOS based on OSEK-VDX standard. Other RTOS are more POSIX like or only project specific.

Why FreeOSEK and not other OSEK implementation?

If you have a commercial OSEK then you will not be interested in FreeOSEK. If you are a student, a small company or you need an OSEK to perform a product evaluation you may like to test FreeOSEK.
